PGY1 Pharmacy Program

Saint Francis Hospital has offered an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program since July of 2000. Our program was awarded ASHP accreditation in November of 2002. Since inception, the program has addressed the individual needs of our residents while adhering to the principles and philosophies described in the ASHP Standards for Pharmacy Residency Training.

Our PGY1 Program builds on Doctor of Pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions.

Upon completing our program, residents will:

  • Be eligible for board certification
  • Be eligible for PGY2 Residency training
  • Gain experience precepting APPE students
  • Obtain Teaching and Learning Program Certification through the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy

After orientation, residents are typically scheduled to staff one evening per week and every third weekend, plus selected additional shifts during the year.

Longitudinal experiences including Drug Information and Drug Policy, Practice Management and Leadership, Research Project, and Teaching and Education will include routinely scheduled activities, and assignments. December is allocated for research and scholarship associated with research projects.
