Diagnosis
Trinity Health Of New England is uniquely positioned to screen, monitor, diagnose, stage, and successfully treat conditions and cancers affecting the lungs, esophagus, pleura, mediastinum, diaphragm, and chest wall. We help you navigate the right screenings and diagnosis and equip you with information about your condition to help you make an informed decision about your care.
Our thoracic surgeons can diagnosis your condition in an outpatient clinic and perform tests in one of our hospitals. A series of tests may be used to gather information about your condition. Patients may also require surgical interventions in order to diagnose and treat thoracic conditions or diseases. We encourage patients and family members to partner with us along the way to ensure the best treatment plan.
Robust Suite of Diagnostic Tools
Trinity Health Of New England’s Thoracic Program offers several minimally invasive diagnostic technologies that allow our surgeons to effectively diagnose and plan treatment for a variety of thoracic health concerns. ENB is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that allows physicians to locate hard-to-reach small lung lesions for biopsy and treatment if needed.
Another groundbreaking diagnostic procedure that we offer patients is Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS), a minimally invasive procedure that allows physicians to obtain tissue samples of lung masses and lymph nodes using ultrasound guidance during transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA). A complete list of diagnostic tools include:
- Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) — Used to identify and evaluate esophageal and gastric cancers and biopsy masses and lymph nodes.
- Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS) and Robotic Bronchoscopy — Minimally invasive, complementary technologies to EUS that together allow for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal disease that has spread to the mediastinum and lungs.
- Pulmonary Function Testing — Used to test breathing and how the lungs are functioning.
The Monarch Platform combines traditional camera views into the lung with computerassisted navigation based on 3-D models of the patient’s own lung anatomy.
