What is a 3D Mammography Exam?

Conventional 2D mammograms provide a two dimensional image to evaluate the breast. This can be limiting due to overlapping layers of tissue, which can sometimes produce unclear results, false alarms, or worse – cancer being missed.

At The Comprehensive Women’s Center at Saint Francis Hospital, we have the latest Hologic’s Genius™ 3D Mammography™ machine which has greater accuracy than 2D mammography for women across a variety of ages and breast densities. 3D mammograms are also the only mammogram FDA approved as superior for women with dense breast tissue.

The 3D mammography exams provide optimal accuracy for women across a variety of ages and breast densities. They are covered and paid for by Medicare and most private insurers.
