ED Leader

The ED Leader is an experienced emergency nurse. The role of the ED Leader is maintaining department throughput and the well-being of all people in the emergency department, including patients, staff and visitors.


Provider

Doctor (MD or DO), Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APRN), Physician’s Assistant (PA), Medical Resident

  • Performs medical assessments, places orders for interventions and medications
  • Performs procedures for patients
  • Directs plan of care

Registered Nurse

  • Performs nursing assessments and care
  • Administers medications
  • Carries out provider orders and nursing procedures

Licensed Practical Nurse

  • Administers medications and care under the direction of the RN
  • Carries out provider orders and nursing procedures under the direction of the RN
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) needs such as toileting and nutrition
  • Prepare and reset patient care treatment areas

Emergency Department Technician

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), Professional Nurse Assistant (PNA)

  • Perform procedures and comfort measures under the direction of the RN
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) needs such as toileting and nutrition
  • Prepare and reset patient care treatment areas

Unit Secretary

  • Provide administrative support
  • Greet and direct visitors
  • Explain relevant hospital policies to visitors
  • Visitor restriction policy
  • Assist with patient care needs as appropriate
  • Notify nurse or technician of patient requests
