The school of vascular ultrasound is a one-year, full time, highly specialized certificate program. There is also a 26 week program offered to those who already hold a CCI or ARDMS ultrasound credential such as RCS, RDCS, RDMS, etc. Students will learn the fundamentals of vascular function and physiology. The program comprises an initial two weeks of dedicated classroom instruction, concentration on anatomy, basic equipment operation and fundamental skill development in vascular ultrasound. The remaining weeks comprises four days of clinical, hands-on instruction at hospital training sites and one day of classroom instruction.
Students will focus on concentrations in the areas of:
- Upper and lower venous and arterial anatomy and hemodynamics
- Upper and lower venous duplex imaging
- Carotid arterial anatomy and duplex imaging
- Abdominal vascular anatomy and duplex imaging
- Upper and lower peripheral arterial imaging and physiologic testing
- Hemodialysis access grafts and fistulae duplex imaging
- Arterial bypass and post angioplasty duplex imaging
- Sonography in the venous treatment room
Prerequisites and Admissions
Option One (52-week program)
You do not have to hold an ultrasound credential to apply to the 52 week program, but do have to meet one of the following criteria:
1A: Any 2-year AMA Allied Health degree, such as but not limited to: Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Cardiopulmonary Technology, Occupational Therapy, and Registered Nursing
1B: Any bachelor’s degree in health science
1C: Non health science bachelor's degree with the following co-requisites:
- Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (8 College Credits)
- Medical Terminology
- Note: A letter grade of C or higher is required.
1D: Paramedic graduate of a degree-granting, accredited paramedic training program
- Supporting Documentation: Official educational transcripts AND employment verification letter
1E: Enrolled in accredited University/College pathway to Cardiovascular Technology, including program guidelines/standards, qualified applicants must have a minimum of 100 course credit hours, and must have completion the following courses:
- Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II
- Medical Terminology
- Note: A letter grade of C or higher is required
- Supporting Documentation: Official educational transcripts AND Official Letter from Dean of the Schools.
1F: Foreign and Domestic MDs and DOs are also eligible to apply
- Supporting Documentation: Official educational transcripts AND/OR medical license credential
Note: International transcripts need to be verified by a credentialing company such as World Education Services (WES)
Option Two (26 week program)
To apply for the vascular ultrasound program you must already hold an ultrasound credential through CCI or ARDM.
Although not required, preference will be given to graduates of a cardiac or general ultrasound program accredited by the JRC-DMS or JRC-CVT and recognized by CAAHEP.
One of the following requirements also apply:

- $50 application fee (non-refundable)

- $17,000 - Includes all tuition, books, lab and graduation fees, national registry fees. (Option 1 - 52 Week Program)
- $8,500 - Includes all tuition, books, lab and graduation fees, national registry fees. (Option 2 - 26 Week Program)
