The Stone Program at Trinity Health Of New England utilizes a multidisciplinary team including Urologists, Nephrologists, Dietitians, and Radiologists. Early treatment and following a prescribed plan can help alleviate pain and discomfort, speed up recovery, reduce the risk of recurrence, minimize missed work days, and lower the risk of infection and kidney damage. It's important to consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best treatment options for you.
Treatment options:
- Many stones pass on their own.
- Certain medications may help your body pass the stone; medications may actually help some types of stones dissolve.
- Some stones require a procedure to remove or break up the stone. Often these procedures are done as an outpatient. The procedures can include:
- Laser fragmentation.
- Shock wave lithotripsy.
- Ureteroscopy.
- Percutaneous stone removal.
- Laparoscopic stone removal.
Diet education is a key component for all treatment options.
