Building a Healthier Future: Community Programs at Mercy Medical Center

Empowering Our Community, Together

At Mercy Medical Center, we're dedicated to fostering health and healing not just within our walls, but throughout the communities we serve. We believe in the power of collaboration and strive to eliminate health disparities experienced by our most vulnerable populations. This is at the heart of everything we do, from our commitment to serving those in need to our innovative community programs.

Delivering Hope: The Mercy Healthcare for the Homeless Program

For over 40 years, the Mercy Healthcare for the Homeless Program (HCH) has been a beacon of hope, providing comprehensive health and social services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Western Massachusetts. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to:

  • Identify those in need

  • Assess their unique healthcare and resource requirements

  • Deliver essential health and social services

  • Evaluate the program's impact and continuously improve our approach

This vital program ensures access to critical care 365 days a year, with emergency coverage available around the clock.

Early Detection Saves Lives: Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides a vital lifeline to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women. Our program helps overcome barriers to accessing timely screenings, diagnostics, and treatment for breast and cervical cancer. We go beyond access by offering comprehensive patient navigation services that empower women throughout their healthcare journey. Additionally, the program focuses on behavior change at various levels (individual, organizational, community, and policy) to create lasting positive impacts.

Nourishing Our Communities: Moving Massachusetts Upstream

In collaboration with the MA Health Policy Commission and Department of Public Health, we participate in Moving Massachusetts Upstream. This collaborative initiative bridges the gap between clinical care and community needs by addressing the root causes of health disparities. We work upstream with our partners to advocate for policy changes, promote healthy built environments, and improve access to healthy food options across the state.
