About
Dr. Scott Bissell is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic sports medicine. He has a particular interest in surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee with an emphasis on minimally invasive and arthroscopic ligament, tendon, and cartilage repair. Specialties include rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability repair, ACL reconstruction of the knee, complex patella surgery, treatment of clavicle fractures, and hip arthroscopy/labral repair. He is often asked to perform second opinion evaluations for complex or revision cases. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Bissell attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA graduating summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT. He then went on to complete his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Dr. Bissell completed a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic (Los Angeles, CA), one of the countries premiere training programs. During his fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe, he had the opportunity to work as an Assistant Team Physician for many of Southern California's professional sports teams (MLB, MLS, NBA, WNBA, NHL). While in fellowship, Dr. Bissell gained particular expertise in the evaluation and treatment of injuries in the high-level throwing athletes.
Having grown up locally in Tolland, CT, Dr. Bissell enjoys remaining active in the community. He serves as a team physician for Windsor, Windsor Locks, Suffield, and Bloomfield High Schools. Additionally, he is an orthopedic consultant for the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL) hockey team.
