About
Joseph Gnanaraj, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist with Saint Mary’s Hospital and Franklin Medical Group.
Dr. Gnanaraj received his medical degree from Madurai Medical College, an affiliate of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in India, where he also completed his post graduate training in internal medicine. Dr. Gnanaraj served as a consultant physician at Jawahar Hospital in Madurai and as an assistant professor of medicine at Vinayaka Missions Medical College in Salem, India. He subsequently served as Senior Registrar of the Department of Medicine for the Ministry of Health in St. Vincent, and as a clinical tutor at Kingstown Medical College at St. George’s University.
In 2007, Dr. Gnanaraj completed his internal medicine residency at Griffin Hospital, where he later served as Chief Resident, Faculty Hospitalist and Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He was recognized as “Physician of the Year” in 2012 for providing exceptional and compassionate patient care and received multiple awards for teaching medicine to residents. He was a clinical instructor at Yale University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Bridgeport Hospital, an affiliate of Yale-New Haven Health. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the ACC Connecticut Chapter Council.
Dr. Gnanaraj is board certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, echocardiography, peripheral vascular ultrasound and nuclear cardiology. Clinical areas of interest include management of heart failure, valvular heart disease and heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation. Dr. Gnanaraj believes in providing holistic care and treating patients as a whole, not just their hearts. He looks forward to serving new patients from Greater Waterbury and surrounding towns at Franklin Medical Group – Cardiology.
