About
John Hunt, MD, grew up in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He chose to pursue a career in pathology and completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. During that time, his specialized training included the areas of gastrointestinal pathology under the tutelage of Drs. Harvey Goldman and Donald Antonioli, as well as breast pathology with Drs. Laura Collins, James Connolly, and Stuart Schnitt. He pursued additional fellowship training in hematopathology at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT, where he developed a particular interest in flow cytometry. After completion of his fellowship, Dr. Hunt took a position at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he worked for five years, practicing a wide range of surgical pathology and hematopathology procedures, and served as medical director of flow cytometry. He relocated to his alma mater as an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and in the Department of Pathology at UNC Hospitals, where he became director of immunohistochemistry and associate director of surgical pathology. He returned to Baystate Medical Center and took on the roles of director of immunohistochemistry and medical director of surgical pathology. Dr. Hunt recently joined the Trinity Health pathology team at St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford and is transitioning to a position closer to home at the Department of Pathology at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, MA.
