About
Dr. Silverstein received two bachelor degrees and graduated summa cum laude and in the top 1% of his class at Rutger’s University, New Brunswick, N.J. He then completed his medical degree and finished in the top of his class from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y.
Following completion of medical school, he served as an intern and resident in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center. As a senior resident, he completed his pediatric orthopaedic experience at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. He later served as a chief orthopaedic surgical resident at Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Dr. Silverstein then pursued his passion in musculoskeletal oncology by completing the Enneking / Scarborough / Gibbs fellowship at the University of Florida Health Center and Shand’s Hospital. He then returned to Connecticut where he became an Assistant Professor and chief of musculoskeletal oncology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. After establishing this new program, he later joined the full-time faculty at Saint Francis Hospital and Cancer Center where he is the Director of musculoskeletal oncology and Academic Director of orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Silverstein runs a busy clinical practice of musculoskeletal oncology, total joint replacement and trauma. He has established the Connecticut Musculoskeletal Cancer Alliance which is an integrated network of dedicated, multi-disciplinary services, physicians and health care staff with focus on musculoskeletal tumors. He continues to teach and gives frequent lectures in the tri-state area. In addition, he is pursuing several research interests and most recently is actively involved in hardware design.
