About
Dr. Uday Shankar, board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine is welcoming new patients.
Dr. Uday Shankar has earned his medical degree from Patna Medical College in India. He also trained in medicine for three years in India prior to coming to the USA. He did his internal medicine residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Queens Hospital and Medical Center. Following his residency he served as Chief Medical Resident for one year at the same institution. He completed his three-year fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology from Icahn School of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital and Medical Center. He also served as Associate Director for the hospitalist service and faculty for internal medicine residency at Aventura Hospital prior to his fellowship training. During this time he received awards for clinical excellence as well as for excellence in residents’ education. Dr. Shankar has authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at various scientific meetings. Some of his presentations have received awards as well.
In addition to general gastroenterology and colorectal cancer screening, he has special interest in inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatic and biliary diseases. Dr. Shankar likes to spend time with his patients to understand their individual needs and to educate them about the disease and the treatment options. He encourages patient’s involve-ment in formulating the management plan.
