Physician Sketch:
Zia Rahman, M.D. a graduate of the Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, received Internal Medicine training in Lahore and at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He then trained as a Pathologist as well as an Internist at the University of Connecticut Health Center and at the State University of New York in Long Island. After completing Fellowship Training in Hematology and Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, he joined the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. There he coordinated the Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic and served as an Attending Physician in the Departments of Breast Medical Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He joined the Saint Francis Regional Cancer Center in 1998 as an Attending Physician. His main interests have been clinical trials and development of new drugs and biologic agents. He serves as the lead medical oncologist in the Breast Cancer Program of Excellence and is also is a Senior Medical Oncologist in the Breast Center and in the GYN Cancer Center of Excellence. He is a diplomat of the American Boards of Pathology, Internal Medicine and of its subspecialties of Oncology and Hematology. He holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
