HARTFORD, Conn. -- Saint Francis Hospital has been awarded on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals 2024, earning a spot on the list for the sixth consecutive year. Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, present this prestigious award. Saint Francis is included on the list of 412 hospitals in the United States and also earned the Infection Prevention Award. Saint Francis is one of just five Connecticut hospitals named on the list. The full list of honorees can be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
“We are extremely proud to be honored by Newsweek for the sixth straight year and be recognized for the care that is provided to our patients and their families every day,” said Dan Moen, Acting President, Saint Francis Hospital. “Being named a World’s Best Hospital is possible because of the dedication and hard work of our physicians, nurses, clinical, and non-clinical colleagues. This award is a tangible representation of our commitment to provide Mission-based, whole-person care to our patients and community.”
Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the rankings. The lists are based on four data sources:
- Recommendations from Medical Experts: Online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries.
- Results from Patient Surveys: Survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization.
- Hospital Quality Metrics: Medical indicators e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and waiting times.
- Patient-Reported Outcome Measurements (PROM) Implementation Survey: Optional online survey on the implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.
Based on the four pillars above and their respective weights, a final source was calculated for each hospital. The Infection Prevention Award identifies hospitals featured in the national ranking which performed above the national average based on six reporting measures.
“Leading healthcare institutions are at the forefront of medical innovation worldwide,” said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor-in-Chief, Newsweek. “Newsweek and Statista are proud to announce ‘The World’s
Best Hospitals 2024,’ spotlighting hospitals that are dedicated to excellence in medical science and compassionate patient care.”
