Our modern emergency department, with 38 exam rooms, is designed to treat you quickly and efficiently, using the very best in medical technology. Our team of board-certified Emergency Medicine physicians sees nearly 75,000 patients a year – a level of experience that translates into expert, high-quality care.

We want you have the best-possible experience, starting with streamlined services to ensure that you see a doctor fast:
- Nurse First – An experienced registered nurse (not a clerk) assesses all walk-in patients, speeding up triage (the process of deciding which patients should be treated first based on how sick or seriously injured they are)
- FastTracking – Non-emergency patients can have their medical issues resolved quickly in our dedicated FastTrack area, freeing resources for patients with more serious or life-threatening conditions
- Bedside registration – Paperwork can be taken care of during triage or at the bedside, saving time
Expert Care for All Types of Emergencies
- Stroke care – Mercy Medical Center is designated a Primary Stroke Services Hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which means we meet rigorous guidelines for assessing and treating stroke around the clock
- Surgical services – Board-certified general surgeons as well as specialists (including neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons) are available if emergency surgery is required
- Behavioral health – This private and secure 4-bed short-term stay unit provides care for patients with acute psychological problems
- Advanced diagnostic imaging – We have the latest technology including to aid in prompt diagnosis
- On-site lab services – For quick turnaround of medical tests
- On-site pharmacy – So you can conveniently fill a prescription or buy over-the-counter medications
If You Need to Be Admitted to the Hospital
- All inpatients are overseen by board-certified hospitalists, highly trained doctors who specialize in managing the care of hospitalized patients.
- If a more advanced level of care is required, our ICU and intermediate care unit are staffed at all times by board-certified critical care specialists.
