Demolition of the existing Collins Street Parking Garage is well underway! Some of the latest work includes the removal of roughly 1,500 solar panels from the roof, underground utility work, and the implementation of separation walls between the construction zone and hospital. While some of the work so far has not been widely visible, it includes critical components to the next phase of demolition, including taking down the full garage structure. This major next step will be starting soon – the excavator is on site and will begin the demolition process on Monday, September 19! As a result of the continued collaboration between the Saint Francis operations and facilities and the contractor, each step of the process is being carefully assessed, examined, and managed in the most appropriate manner to ensure there are no disruptions to hospital operations or the surrounding neighborhoods. This includes safety measures to ensure the surrounding buildings are protected, as well as air quality controls to limit dust and debris.
