DAISY award recipient

DAISY Award recipient Miranda Gorkusha, RN.

Serving as a nurse in Mercy’s Intermediate Care Unit, Miranda is known for her professional and empathetic manner when caring for patients. In one nomination form, a patient wrote about how much she appreciated Miranda’s positive attitude, saying “she came by my room as often as she could to cheer me up and encourage me…and it made my recovery easier.” Another patient’s relative was grateful for Miranda’s watchful eye as she “came in often to check in” on the patient and always took time to explain everything in a calm, polite way. Miranda was caught off guard by the DAISY Award presentation, as a group of colleagues gathered around her while her full nominations were read.

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes to recognize nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
