On Wednesday, December 11, the Saint Francis Hospital Research Development Office hosted its annual Research Day, which showcased the latest research from across Saint Francis, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, and beyond. A record-breaking 72 posters were submitted, representing 11 departments and organizations and 324 authors. Students from the University of Connecticut, Quinnipiac University, and Central Connecticut State University also presented their research at the event.

A record 72 posters representing 11 departments and organizations were presented at Saint Francis Hospital's annual Research Day.

The primary goal of Research Day is to spotlight the diverse and impactful research being carried out by clinicians, learners, and colleagues within our organization. It is a celebration of the dedication and hard work that fuels innovations in health care, as well as an opportunity to foster a culture of learning and collaboration.

This year’s keynote address was delivered by Thomas Agresta, M.D., a physician at the Asylum Hill Family Medicine Center, as well as a professor and Chair for the Department of Family Medicine at UConn. Dr. Agresta’s talk, titled “AI in Medicine: What’s Here, What’s Hype, and What’s Good for Research?”, explored the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical field. It addressed the real-world application of AI, its potential benefits, and the distinction between what is feasible and what is currently more of a technological “hype.”

Research Day was held in the CIPCI Learning + Innovation Center at Saint Francis, with posters displayed in the lobby, common area, and collaborative theater.

A recording of Dr. Agresta’s presentation is available for viewing HERE. Additionally, the virtual poster exhibition remains available for those who wish to explore the research presentations online at TrinityHealthOfNE.org/ResearchDay.

The event was organized by the Saint Francis Office of Research Development with assistance from various organizational departments to provide a space for emerging and established researchers to connect, share ideas, and inspire one another. Research Day reflects the mission of the Office of Research Development, which is to advance independent scholarship, foster research excellence, and continuously improve the quality of care.

“Our vision is to ignite a passion for research among our colleagues and provide them with the tools and support needed to become proficient investigators,” said Rebecca Crowell, Director of Research Development. “By fostering a culture of continuous learning, we strive to enhance healthcare outcomes for all.”
