Gastroenterology Department At Saint Mary’s Expands Services

The Gastroenterology department at Saint Mary’s Hospital continues its standard as a Center of Excellence with the recent achievement of Uday Shankar, M.D. in completing training for Endoscopic Ultrasound.

Endoscopic Ultrasound is a minimally invasive procedure where a long, thin tube is inserted into the body that allows for precise examination of internal organs and tissues, as well as performance of minor surgeries. Having a skilled specialist on-site is a huge benefit for physicians and patients alike. It provides access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, enhancing patient care and outcomes.

“Throughout Dr. Shankar‘s tenure at our department, he has continually pursued new treatment modalities and a dedication to excellence,” said Russell Parvin, M.D., Chief, Department of Gastroenterology. “And now, with his newly acquired capabilities in endoscopic ultrasound, he promises to further elevate service to our community and improve the health and lives of our patients.”

“Dr. Shankar’s successful completion of training in Endoscopic Ultrasound is a significant achievement, and it underscores Saint Mary’s commitment to maintaining its standard as a Center of Excellence in gastroenterology,” said Husnain Kermalli, Chief Medical Officer. “We now have two providers with Dr. Shankar joining Praneet Wander, M.D., in providing this capability for our patients and community.”
