Chest Wall Injury and Reconstruction
Since establishment in 2019, Saint Francis Hospital's Chest Wall Injury and Reconstruction Center (CWIRC) has managed hundreds of rib and sternal fracture patients. We have also performed Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures (SSRF) on over 100 patients, becoming the largest volume center in the Northeast. Our CWIRC aims to optimize operative and non-operative care for patients with both acute and chronic chest wall injuries, reducing mortality and improving post-injury function and quality of life. We are proud to be recognized as a Chest Wall Injury Society Collaborative Center, one of only eight in the country!
Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Of New England, is proud to be verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 Trauma Center, the highest level of distinction in trauma care. The Trauma Team at Saint Francis provides optimal patient care matching the highest national standards. Our team includes fellowship-trained surgeons, all of whom are board-certified in general surgery and critical care. In addition, our APP staff and nurses receive specialty certifications in trauma. All members of our team are fully committed to the highest standards of education, quality, and safety.
